چکیده

In this paper, we defend three claims about what it will take for an AI system to be a basic moral patient whom can owe duties of non-maleficence not harm her and beneficence benefit her: (1) Moral patients are mental patients; (2) Mental true intentional systems; (3) True systems systematically flexible. We suggest that should particularly alert the possibility such flexible developing in areas exploratory robots artificial personal assistants. Finally, argue light our failure respect well-being existing biological worries limited resources, there compelling reasons treat patiency as something avoided at least now.

Are Intentionality Judgments Fundamentally Moral?

C onsiderable evidence documents the foundational role that judgments of intentionality play in human social cognition. Even before their first birthday, children distinguish intentional from unintentional behavior and soon learn to recognize the goals and beliefs that motivate intentional action. Adults’ judgments of intentionality are grounded in a sophisticated concept in which they consider...

Moral anger, but not moral disgust, responds to intentionality.

We propose that, when people judge moral situations, anger responds to the contextual cues of harm and intentionality. On the other hand, disgust responds uniquely to whether or not a bodily norm violation has occurred; its apparent response to harm and intent is entirely explained by the coactivation of anger. We manipulated intent, harm, and bodily norm violation (eating human flesh) within a...

Iconicity vs. Systematicity in Artificial Language Learning

A foundational assumption in linguistics has been that words and their meanings are arbitrarily related; however, this position has been challenged recently. Experiments have shown that both systematic (where similar objects have similar labels) and iconic (words ‘resemble’ the objects they label) associations between words and objects facilitate learning. However, these two literatures remain ...

Two Distinct Moral Mechanisms for Ascribing and Denying Intentionality

Philosophers and legal scholars have long theorized about how intentionality serves as a critical input for morality and culpability, but the emerging field of experimental philosophy has revealed a puzzling asymmetry. People judge actions leading to negative consequences as being more intentional than those leading to positive ones. The implications of this asymmetry remain unclear because the...

Artificial Intelligence and Moral intelligence

We discuss the thesis that the implementation of a moral code in the behaviour of artificial intelligent systems needs a specific form of human and artificial intelligence, not just an abstract intelligence. We present intelligence as a system with an internal structure and the structural levels of the moral system, as well as certain characteristics of artificial intelligent agents which can/m...
